Welcome to Elgin School District

About Elgin, Oregon

Elgin is nestled at the foot of the Blue Mountains on the northern edge of the Grande Ronde Valley. It is within 20 minutes north of driving time of La Grande, the site of Eastern Oregon University. Both La Grande and Eastern provide outstanding cultural and education opportunities for Elgin residents.

Approximately 2,000 citizens reside in the growing Elgin community. Many community members actively participate in school programs and provide continued support for school activities.

Elgin citizens, including school staff, work together to build a supportive community. Activities include:

2018 Crystal Apple Awards

Elgin Crystal Apple Award Winners 2018

The Elgin School District's 2018 Crystal Apple winners were honored at an awards ceremony in May.

Each year, the InterMountain ESD organizes these awards for its component school districts to recognize outstanding administrators, teachers, educational assistants and office and building staff for their dedication and commitment to students and for their willingness to go above and beyond their regular duties. A total of 44 individuals were honored in Morrow, Umatilla and Union county school districts. The 2018 events mark the 19th annual Crystal Apple Awards for Umatilla and Morrow counties and the 7th annual for Union County.

The 2018 Elgin School District winners are:

  • Deb Horrell, Paraprofessional
  • Jennifer Smith, Language Arts Teacher (7th-9th grades)

Annual Special Education Report Card

The Oregon Department of Education has released the 2016-17 Special Education Report Card for school districts statewide. This and all other annual report cards can be viewed under "School Report Cards" linked from our "Information Center" page.

Annual Notice for Statewide Assessments

Oregon House Bill 2655 permits parents to annually opt-out of Oregon’s statewide summative tests in English Language Arts and Math by submitting the “opt-out” form to the school the student attends. The school shall provide any student who is exempted from a state test with supervised study time while other students are testing.  The opt out form may be found using the link below or in the office of your child’s school.
